Join The16 Student Entrepreneurs on their entrepreneurial challenge to Boston, New York and Toronto!
After successful editions in the US, China and Turkey, The16 Student Entrepreneurs will continue their journey to ‘the East Coast Corridor’, Boston, New York and Toronto in spring 2016! The Dutch Centers for Entrepreneurship and handelsroute.nl invite students with entrepreneurial ambition to register for this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Sixteen bright students from Dutch universities are invited to enrol themselves for this exciting entrepreneurship and international business skills project. These promising students will join us and organise a trip to the east corridor of entrepreneurship; Boston, New York and Toronto.
The students ( The16) fund the trip themselves, tapping into their entrepreneurial skills from the start! The Dutch Centers for Entrepreneurship and handelsroute.nl are the founding partners in this project and will support The16 preparing and executing a successful trip.
Registration for this event has expired.
Who can apply?
We’re looking for highly motivated and talented students, full of creative ideas. As a student, you either have your own business, plan to start one, or you want to apply your entrepreneurial skills in a larger organisation. But most of all you want to be challenged in an international setting!
When will the trip take place?
The trip takes place in April 2016, with a maximum duration of two weeks. Based on all applications, 16 students will be selected by a jury and invited to join this exciting project. Registration is open till October 31st 2015.
We plan to start organising this trip from mid November onwards, please take into account this will require some of your spare time. It is an extracurricular program, which means no study credits involved! Please note you are responsible to make sure that you have no other obligations ( exams, courses etc.) during the trip.
What is the investment?
The16 is an entrepreneurial project for team players. The project is organized and funded by the students themselves. It may even allow you to earn some money in the process. But more important it will be an incredible valuable experience.
To give you an example:
The students joining The16 in 2011 to visit the United States, gathered 26.000 euros of funding for their trip, mainly by assignments they did for other companies, big and small. This covered their flight, accommodation and some expenses. And they took home a couple of euros revenue at the end of the project!
Just like any company, we ask The16 to invest a small amount of 250 euro for start-up cost. You will pay your investment fee after being admitted to the project mid November 2015.
Registration
Are you joining us as part of The16 in the academic year of 2015/2016?
An entrepreneurial jury will select The16 mid November 2015, registration closes October 31st.
How the program will look like, is up to The16 student entrepreneurs. With the support of the handelsroute.nl team and Dutch Centers for Entrepreneurship, they will create an inspiring program on entrepreneurship, education and innovation in Boston, New York and Canada.
"During the16 I discovered my entrepreneurial skills. I am thankfulfor this initiative, offering me many opportunities to grow as an entrepreneur. It was a great experience!"

“Applying for the16 study trip was by far the best extracurricular activity during my studies. No budget, not knowing what we could achieve in just a few months and just a handful of entrepreneurial students to do it. The result? An unforgettable adventure, memories I regularly retrieve and new friends made for life. You want a true taste of entrepreneurship? Go for it! It most probably will be the best decision you have made in a long time.”
Friso van Welsem, former VU student, participating in The16 in 2011: Boston & San Francisco.
A unique part of this project is the sponsorship deals students will make with businesses. How The16 may be able to help you will be presented shortly...
